“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

-Nelson Mandela.

With an eye to imparting education to the boys and girls in the remote areas of Sundarbans, Paschim Gabberia High School was established in 1957, and those who came to the front to establish the school was Late Kashinath Mandal, the eminent teacher, Late Dhirendranath Mandal, an advocate and Late Ramendranath Ghosh, a freedom fighter. At the same time, I humbly remember the names of three land donors of this school: Late Manikantha Biswas, Late Ramendranath Ghosh & Late Uddhab Chandra Mandal.

The school was recognised as 4-class Junior High School w.e.f. 01.01.1962 vide Memo no. 20248/G dated 05.09.1962.

The school was upgraded to X-class High School w.e.f. 01.01.1965 vide Memo no. 2510/G dated 20.02.1965 of the WBBSE.

The school was upgraded to XII-class H.S. School w.e.f. 01.07.2003 vide Memo no. DS(A)SD/466/03 dated 27/03/2003 of the WBCHSE. The Higher Secondary section began in 2003 with Arts stream. Later in 2009, the Science stream was introduced. The school has traversed a glorious journey since its inception.

Sri Subodh Gopal Pramanik who was the first Headmaster of this school was my teacher at Dakshin Barasat Sibdas Acharya High School. I can call to mind his loving and gentle personality. Personally I’m familiar with all my predecessors except Sri Kashinath Mandal whose cherished dream was this school. Sri Sudhanshu Shekhar Mandal was a man of strong personality who laid the granite foundation for the golden era of the school. Sri Manotosh Mandal is a man of pleasing personality. Sri Anadinath Mandal caught my heart with his ever-smilimg simplicity. Sri Sudhamay Majhi, the ex-TIC and now one of the members of the Academic Council of the school, is a cooperative & helpful person.

I am fortunate to have the opportunity of serving as the Headmaster of this school since 24.07.2019. It is true that now schools are overburdened with various government schemes, such as Kanyashree, Sabuj Sathi, Pre & Post matric scholarships, Mid-day meals, and what not? Apart from this, there are a lot of administrative and academic functions throughout the year. But nothing can stand in the way of our progress. At present our school has 38 permanent teachers, 1 contractual teacher, 2 para teachers, and 4 non-teaching staffs. A school is a team work.  As a team, we have to make head against some difficulties, and with their active, positive and constructive cooperation I will try to give effect to the cherished dreams of my predecessors so that the school can make its mark in the field of learning.
